Back to School isn’t just about clothes and notebooks, it’s also a time to take care and invest in the something just as important as your noggin… your skin.
For the Middle-School to College Student, the routine remains the same and I’ve broken it down into 2 main categories: Basic & Accessories – simple essentials to add-on’s to enhance the complexion and protect and nurture skin.
Cleanse, Exfoliate and Moisturize are the 3 essentials when it comes to skin care. Most girls are concerned with acne, but in reality – a gentle, non-drying cleanser will keep acne at bay. Cleansing the skin of daily dirt, oil, bacteria and makeup are key.
Exfoliation is a girl’s best friend. It keep pores clean and clear while moisturizer should be lightweight and basic. No fragrances or mineral oils to clog and irritate skin.
A SPF should be applied daily beginning at an early age. Skin Cancer in on the rise and the sun contributes to over 90% of our pre-mature aging. Have her start young, she’ll thank you!
Lip Balm helps to keep lips comfortable and hydrated. Protection from air-conditioned or heated classroom (or just too much talking between classes) is easily remedied with a great lip balm (night) or gloss (day).
The accessories are just as simple for every day classes, but give experience to the older teen on color application. A simple eyeshadow for a wash of color can be beautiful if applied properly. Although I am not a fan of eyeliner for young girls, high-school may be a time to introduce it. Always chose a medium to dark brown – NO BLACK – and apply it as close to the lashes as possible to the top only. No need for water-lining or an all over approach. The idea is to enhance natural beauty not add years to the age of our girls.
Back to cleansing and skin maintenance, a once-a-week deep cleansing mask unclogs pores, while a great medicine cabinet necessity is a acne spot treatment. Apply at night before bed on clean skin and that blemish is gone!!
Of course, real beauty is all about confidence, happiness and a adventurous spirit. Take the time to inspire a young girl and let her know the world is hers for the exploring!!! It all starts with the belief that she can!
